No Group Discussions This clinic is designed for those who suffer from anxiety; GAD, Panic Disorder, PTSD. Even though it is taught in a group setting, this is a personal experience; no group activities and you will never be asked to speak publicly. Presentations are given with visual aids (power point presentation, handouts, etc), and all work is private (you are not asked to turn in suggested journal responses for the self-study work). The utmost care and attention is given to accommodate those that are not comfortable in social situations. We are also open to allowing a spouse, friend, or family member to attend with you, if that support feels right for you.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
The main focus of this series is providing you with an education that includes a step-by-step process to create your own self-healing program, to practice daily, in your own home over an 8 week time period (and beyond). The information given in each meeting is intended to be worked through in the two weeks between sessions. A daily commitment is required to defeat anxiety – it is not a quick fix because we go to the root of the problem – programming errors in our nervous systems! We sense danger when none is around – typically the residue of past experiences that are locked into a mind/body connection that continues to elicit warnings that stress our nervous systems and have debilitating symptoms. You CAN change this!
We provide you with a workbook, a booklet with educational support information if you want to dig-in deeper, audio recordings with guided practices, sequence sheets, and a self-regulation toolbox to help you uncover your inner power and gain control over a run away nervous system.
You will be introduced to a neuropsychological explanation of triggers, what is happening internally when triggered, and the process of reprogramming our responses to get rid of triggers. Conscious use of self-healing tools are profoundly liberating when combating the debilitating effects of anxiety and feelings of being stuck.
Learn breathwork, meditation, and gentle movement techniques that help to break the psychological, behavioral, biochemical, and physical cycles that keep anxiety in your life, and to eventually completely overcome anxiety.
TOOLS FOR SELF-REGULATION
More often than not, people who experience chronic dysregulation have compromised bodily awareness and a sense of being out of control of their body/mind. In the first class we jump right in to tools to “down-regulate” the fight or flight response or to “up-regulate” feelings of being shut down, and how to “turn on” the relaxation response. These are tools for managing difficult moments as we work on the long-term project of re-programing our neural networks to break triggers, regain control of our nervous system and our inner peace circuitry.
A take-home program with daily exercises and lifestyle suggestions will be handed out as well as a guided meditation mp3s. The combination of the methods that we explore are very powerful. Yoga Therapy is a blend of traditional Yoga practices, Ayurveda, Alternative Medicine, and modern medical science. We will also explore nutrition, aromatherapy (unless someone in class has EO sensitivities), acupressure, sound healing and movement. The more you know about anxiety and how to defeat it, the more empowered you become to drive your own self-healing journey. Difficulty controlling worry
Excess anxiety and worry that is out of proportion to the situation most of the time
